Adventure Holidays

White water rafting on the Nile, quad biking across Namibia's dunes, and other adrenaline add-ons for a trip built around more than wildlife.

Overview

Not every day of a trip needs to be a game drive. Jinja's stretch of the Nile holds some of the best white water rafting anywhere, and Namibia's dunes are as suited to a quad bike as they are to a sunrise photograph.

We treat these as deliberate additions to a wider itinerary, booked through licensed local operators and scheduled so the adrenaline doesn't collide with an early gorilla trek the next morning.

Adventure Holidays By Country

Uganda and Namibia offer two very different adrenaline add ons, one on whitewater, the other on sand.

Logistics
Jinja is a two to three hour drive from Entebbe, easily added as a stop on the way to or from a gorilla trek.
Cost
A full day of Nile rafting runs around $140 per person, including equipment, safety briefing and lunch.
Where To Stay
A range of riverside lodges and backpacker camps in Jinja, generally a one or two night stop.
Our Take
Genuinely world class grade five whitewater, and one of the easiest adrenaline add ons to fit into a Uganda trip.
Logistics
Dune activities run from lodges near Swakopmund or Sossusvlei, with an instructor leading every session.
Cost
Quad biking and sandboarding run $80 to $150 per person for a half day session.
Where To Stay
Desert lodges near Swakopmund or Sossusvlei, the same bases used for photography and walking safaris.
Our Take
A lower intensity adrenaline option than Nile rafting, suited to a wider range of ages and fitness levels.

What To Expect

Nile rafting runs a half or full day with safety briefings and all gear provided by a licensed operator. Namibia's dune activities run a few hours from a nearby lodge. Both are scheduled with a rest day either side of anything more physically demanding.

When To Go

Nile rafting runs year round. Namibia's dune activities are most comfortable May to September, in the cooler winter months.

Adventure Holidays Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need rafting experience for the Nile?

No, trips are graded for beginners through experienced rafters, and a safety briefing and all equipment are provided before you start. Basic swimming ability is expected.

Is quad biking suitable for beginners?

Yes, Namibia's dune quad biking trips are run with an instructor and suit first timers, with routes chosen for the group's experience level.

Can adventure activities be added to a gorilla trekking trip?

Yes, Nile rafting pairs naturally with a Uganda gorilla trekking itinerary since Jinja isn't far from the standard route, we just build in a rest day around the trek itself.
